Making a new garment from the beginning to the end is pleasantly satisfying for me, I love it, that's why after many turns in my working life is what I dedicate myself to.

What I don't like is that fashion is the second most polluting industry on the planet and it also makes my hair stand on end that in the 21st century there is still hidden slavery in pursuit of an industry that makes us consume voraciously.

I always say that whoever has not consumed fast-fashion to throw the first stone, I have also done it, one of my favorite activities was "going shopping", but those times are over, now I am more aware and that is reflected in my consumption. Like everyone, I learn as I go.

That's why when I came up with Ms Worker in 2018, I wanted sustainability and ethics to be part of its DNA. During the creation of the brand, everyone and I wondered why my existence was so complicated, but now in 2021 in the midst of a pandemic, and after many people are rethinking their way of life, there are more and more those who understand me.

Now I would like to tell you what we do to be a little more sustainable every day, since 100% sustainable does not exist.

ECODESIGN

• We design timeless garments, capsule wardrobe clothes, we want them to last both for quality and because they do not go out of style.
• We do not have seasons, thanks to the timelessness of our designs we have a permanent collection to which we are slowly adding and eliminating models.
• We use basic colors which we do not care if they are trend or not, almost all our models have a black version, the most elegant and versatile color of all.
• We hardly use prints, and if we do, they are not strident, we want them to go unnoticed.
• We try to use the same fabric for the entire garment and we put the minimum interlining necessary for the structure of it, so that at the end of its useful life it is easier to recycle.
• For the same reason as in the previous point, we try not to use zippers (sometimes they are necessary) and the same with the buttons. That is why you will see that most of our garments are knitted and that they are more adaptable.

PRODUCTION

• We make very small runs, we want to avoid wasting resources and adapt to our customers by repeating those models that they liked the most.
• Making small productions allows us to make limited editions and provide you with quality and exclusivity. We promote the "less and better"
• We manufacture in Spain, specifically in Madrid, promoting the local industry and employing professionals who pour their know-how into each of our garments, making high-quality pieces of them.
• We value the work of these professionals and we pay exactly what their work is worth and we also know perfectly who and under what working conditions each of our garments are made.
• By manufacturing in proximity we reduce our carbon footprint.

RAW MATERIALS

FABRICS

• Organic cotton fabrics with GOTS certificate, a standard that ensures clear requirements throughout the entire production chain, both in terms of caring for the environment and social criteria. Some of the most important requirements are:
• Forced labor is not allowed, nor child labor.
• Working conditions must be safe.
• Oxygen-based bleaches are not allowed.
• Toxic heavy metals are prohibited.
• Recycled and recyclable fabrics

• TENCEL ™ Lyocell fabrics, the fibers of these fabrics are extracted from sustainably grown wood, generally eucalyptus, through a unique closed-loop system that recovers and reuses the solvents used, minimizing the environmental impact of production.
• TENCEL ™ Lyocell fabrics have unsurpassed physical properties: they are breathable, regulating temperature and humidity, they are antibacterial and have a unique softness, as well as being very resistant and durable.
• TENCEL ™ Lyocell fibers are certified compostable and biodegradable, and therefore can be completely returned to nature.

• Fabrics Deadstock (dead stock)

The deadstock real, by definition is that fabric that brands for different reasons are not going to use. In this case, especially emerging brands, can benefit from buying these surpluses. First of all, because it is giving a second life to an excess fabric and secondly because it allows creating a limited and unique collection, since these fabrics will not be available again.

In our case we have gotten some "sleeping beauties" from the LVMH group through the Startup NoNa Source. Fabrics from French Haute Couture houses, which were previously destroyed, and now we reuse small brands.

The fabrics that we have reused are viscose, wool and cotton of the highest quality.

 

INTERLININGS

• As we have said before, we try to use the minimum possible interlinings in our garments, but if necessary we always use interlinings made with recycled PET.

 

TACKLE

• The few zippers that we use, only in the models that require them to be able to put them on, we buy them in a local haberdashery. We plan to use recycled PET, but because of the minimum we found it more sustainable to buy a few, even traditional ones, than an infinity of recycled ones.
• Our buttons are made in Spain and are made with remains of Agoya (the last remainder of mother-of-pearl)
• Our threads are varied, or we use the ones we already had from before (there is nothing more sustainable than using what we already have) or we buy GOTS organic cotton or recycled PET threads.
• Our brand labels are woven with recycled PET yarns and the composition labels are printed on polyamide also made from recycled PET.
• Cardboard hang tags are made from pressed grass scraps.
• The cord from which these last tags are hung is an organic cotton cord.
• The hangers are made of recycled cardboard.

   

 

CIRCULARITY

 

 

• All those raw materials that are not organic are recycled or recovered, giving a second life to what was a waste.
• The remains of fabric cut in the production of our garments are shredded and turned into filling for Yoga Bolsters (elongated cushion that helps in the proper execution of certain yoga postures), and the remnants with enough size, for the outer part of these same Bolsters.
• When our garments reach the end of their useful life, hopefully many years from now, clients have several options:
• They can exchange clothes with their friends or family
• Sell it second hand
• Throw the garment in a textile container to give it a second life or to be recycled. Remember that our garments are designed for better recycling at the end of their useful life.

SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY

 

Social responsibility is one of the fundamental pillars of sustainability and at Ms Worker we not only address it in what surrounds the product.

From Ms Worker and thanks to you, we help the NGO Azada Verde to guarantee food sovereignty in local communities in Mozambique, with projects that take advantage of clean energies and have zero environmental impact, through regenerative agriculture or climate change agriculture, which naturally seeks to regenerate and enrich soils.

In Mozambique, more than 70% of poor households are in rural areas. Family farming is the main source of food and income, but production and productivity are low.

At Azada Verde they put farming families at the center of their actions and empower them to promote their food security, improve their farming skills and keep their children in school.

With the purchase of a garment we guarantee that at least 1 family has the necessary tools and resources to practice agriculture for a month.
